# NEON source provenance

This project is a derivative of DarwinDOOM and doomgeneric. Refactoring and new artwork do not remove the underlying engine's authorship or license requirements.

- Upstream application: [DarwinDOOM](https://github.com/twstokes/DarwinDOOM), Tanner W. Stokes and contributors. Existing source notices, including Daniel Colman's input adapter attribution, are retained.
- Portable engine: doomgeneric, derived from DOOM and Chocolate Doom. Individual source headers identify id Software, Simon Howard and other contributors and specify their applicable licenses.
- The repository's root `LICENSE` contains GNU GPL version 3. Many inherited engine headers permit GPL version 2 or any later version. This document does not replace those licenses or grant additional permissions.
- NEON-specific presentation includes its Watch interface, continuation/sandbox flow, tactical-map presentation, weapon catalog, input transport, high-resolution material/sprite pipeline and lighting/postprocessing. New modules remain part of this derivative project; they do not turn the inherited engine into independently authored code.
- Map data: ten selected maps from Freedoom 0.13.0 Phase 1, adapted for this campaign. Freedoom contributors retain authorship. BSD-3-Clause license, copyright and complete release credits are retained in `ThirdParty/Freedoom` and bundled in the app. The original Doom episode map payload has been removed from the active project. Details and checksums: `Tools/Data/neon-campaign.json` and `Docs/Freedoom-Campaign.md`. No Freedoom bitmap artwork, music or recordings are imported by the campaign builder.

Before distribution, prepare the applicable notices, complete corresponding-source delivery and verify the distribution terms for the selected channel. App Store acceptance or license compatibility has not been certified by this cleanup.

## Licensed sound recordings

Edited excerpts from Sonniss GDC Game Audio Bundle 2026 Part 9 are owned by the creators listed in `ThirdParty/Sonniss/SOURCES.md`. Original license/README are retained and bundled. These assets are not relicensed under the engine GPL, nor claimed as independently recorded. Source identity, processing and hashes are in `Audio/manifest.json`. No original Doom recordings or synthesized placeholder tones are shipped in the active bank.

## User soundtrack

The eleven chapter/menu themes were generated in the user’s Suno Pro account and downloaded with their authorization. These are separate from the Doom engine, Freedoom maps and Sonniss effects. Originals are retained in `Audio/MusicSource`, with titles and hashes in `Audio/music-manifest.json`; runtime copies are AAC files in `Resources/Music`.
